Best Book You Read In 2016?
The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova
Honestly it’s a toss up between this one and A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab. However, I’m choosing The Swan Thieves because I was truly shocked by how much I loved it. I don’t read many adult novels, but this book was beautifully written and so inspiring to me as a visual artist.
Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
The Graces by Laure Eve
This book was nothing like I expected it to be. It was weird and shocking and overall just a bit messed up. I have no doubt there are a lot of people who love it, but overall it just made me uncomfortable and weirded out.
Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?
The Girls by Emma Cline
It’s my own fault for not reading the whole summary, but I’m glad I didn’t. I went into this book expecting a romanticized coming-of-age story and, while that’s exactly what I got, I certianly wasn’t expecting the cult murders. Go figure. Nevertheless, this was one of the best books I read this year and I’m so glad it surprised me.
Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
I lent it to my roommate, I bought it for my QP, and I even made my mom listen to the audiobook. I have yet to find anyone who does not absolutely love this book.
Best series you started in 2016? Best Sequel of 2016? Best Series Ender of 2016?
Best series: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Absolutely. It’s only a duology but I read the whole thing this year and have never met it’s match.
Best sequel: A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab. It was even better than the first book and that is the highest compliment I can give.
Best series ender: The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater. Don’t touch me, I’m still not over it.
Favorite new author you discovered in 2016?
Elizabeth Kostova
I adored The Swan Thieves and I can’t wait to read The Historian this year.
Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
Dracula by Bram Stoker
I unexpectedly loved this book! I don’t read many classics but I’m trying to read more. This was not only my favorite classic I’ve read, but also one of my favorite books in general.
Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?
You Know Me Well by David Levithan and Nina LaCour
It’s odd to pick a contemporary for this question, but honestly I finished this book so quickly and could not stop until it was done. It was an amazing read and one of the best contemporaries I’ve ever read.
Book You Read In 2016 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
This might be a reoccurring summer read for me because it is just so much fun.
Favorite cover of a book you read in 2016?
The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron
I got an ARC of this book and was blown away by how gorgeous it was. And then I got my hands on the finished copy. Absolutely gorgeous.
Most memorable character of 2016?
Nico di Angelo from the Percy Jackson series
Since I don’t think I can pick every single character from Six of Crows, I’m going with Nico. I loved him so much and he’s the main reason I picked up Heroes of Olympus straight away after I finished PJO.
Most beautifully written book read in 2016?
The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
No one does words like Maggie. No one.
Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2016?
Every Day by David Levithan
This book was stunning and the way it displayed the physical and emotional realities of different types of people really hit me hard.
Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2016 to finally read?
Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn
I love Christmas books and cute romances and treasure hunts and bookstores. There is nothing about this book I didn’t love. How did it take me this long?
Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2016?
There's this beautiful passage about life starting on p.12 of The Swan Thieves. It's rather long so I won't post it here, but find yourselves a copy and read it.
Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2016?
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
Winter by Marissa Meyer
Ironically I loved The Metamorphosis and didn’t enjoy Winter that much. Remember kids, size isn’t everything.
Book That Shocked You The Most
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
I wasn’t expecting that ending folks. Is Wayfarer out yet?
OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
Wylan and Jesper from Six of Crows
Let these boys be happy. Please.
Additionally I really loved Nicholas and Etta from Passenger. I know that’s more than one ship but I’m usually not super shippy about books and yet both of these pairing killed me with cute so they both must be mentioned. Not to mention they are both healthy and diverse. Please love these ships.
Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year
Inej and Nina from Six of Crows
Bardugo knows how to nail those good relationships.
Kate and August from This Savage Song
I’ve got two for this one as well. Welp. They are all cute, okay?
Favorite Book You Read in 2016 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
Have I mentioned that I love this book?
Best Book You Read In 2016 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:
I guess I would have to pick Every Day by David Levithan. Not really a recommendation per se, but I may have been trying to impress a cute bookworm by reading their favorite author. And then getting them a signed ARC from that author. (Spoiler: it worked).
Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2016?
Nicholas Carter from Passenger
I would like to marry him as soon as possible please.
Best 2016 debut you read?
Timekeeper by Tara Sim
I'm picking one that I haven’t mentioned yet, but I really loved this book. It was so refreshing to see a well written fantasy novel with an lgbt+ main character. It was cute, steampunk, and all around fantastic. Fully recommend it.
Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?
This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab
There are so many books I could pick for this one, but Victoria will always be my world building queen.
Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?
Kill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky
I’m not sure if that book was supposed to make me die of laughter, but it did. It was so wild and crazy and so much fun to read.
Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2016?
So many. But The Raven King takes the cake. #NoahDeservedBetter2016
Hidden Gem Of The Year?
The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron
I didn’t hear any hype for this book, but I am here to tell you there should have been some. It is a good book with some good romance and excellent plot twists.
Book That Crushed Your Soul?
In an effort not to say The Raven King again, I will pick Me Before You. You know why.
Most Unique Book You Read In 2016?
Every Day by David Levithan
I have never read a book like this and I loved it because of that.
Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?
Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland
I had high hopes for this book. I did not enjoy most of this book. I expressed my displeasure loudly and often.

One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2016 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2017?
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
After loving both The Swan Thieves and Dracula in 2016, it just makes sense.
Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2017 (non-debut)?
A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab
I’m super scared though. #ProtectRhy2017
2017 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?
I honestly haven’t heard of many 2017 debuts yet. Let me know in the comments which ones I should keep on my radar!
Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2017?
Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken
Bring it on. I’m (probably) ready.
One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2017?
Be consistent with social media.
Read what I want to read (screw my reading goals or what’s popular).
If I buy it, I read it. No exceptions.
A 2017 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone:
I haven’t read any yet but I have an ARC of History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera on my shelf that I am looking forward to being destroyed by.
